Angel Island

Another great part of our trip was our outing to Angel Island. Angel Island has been many things in the past (military fort, immigration station, place for nuclear weapons, etc). Now it is a California State Park. We took the ferry over there for one morning and had a wonderful experience there. It is a beautiful place with lots of history. Here are a few pictures from the visit:
Remains of the military fort.

Beautiful dock and view of the bay.

The old immigration station. The Chinese were held here (unfairly) before immigrating to the US. It is often called the Ellis Island of the west.

Old officers quarters.

Beautiful sandy beach.

Visitors Center.

We didn't know much about the island before we went, but the hour tram ride around the island was worth the visit. Just gorgeous.
