Hawaii-Diamond Head State Monument

On Monday, Kyle and I went off on our own to explore Diamond Head State Monument.
It was a strenuous hike to the top, but it was a beautiful view.
These pictures are not in order:
We saw a whale in the ocean from the top of the hike. This is as close as I could get with my zoom.

 View from the top:
All the hotels in Waikiki. That's a lot of buildings on a little piece of land.

This road reminded me of San Francisco (except it doesn't go straight to the water).

The hike was pretty tough. There were lots of stairs to climb and a path winding straight up.

A couple of tunnels to go through.

 More view from the top:

The sign for the monument at the beginning of the hike:

Us at the top, looking exhausted and accomplished:

While we were there, 2 people had to be air lifted off the top. We heard one was for heart attack and one was for stroke. Here is the helicopter and the emergency vehicles. I am glad we made it up and back without too much problem.

The tunnel into the monument.

A random bird I took a picture of.
This was one of our favorite parts of the trip, but also the most exercise we got all week.
